HSV Hamburg and TSV Hannover-Burgdorf began the game in the Handball Bundesliga with a series of missed throws. After a low-scoring first phase, Martin Hanne scored the first goal of the game and Hannover was able to equalize the deficit. Hamburg built up the lead in the meantime, but Hannover fought back to within one goal with a strong defense and a good finish from Adam Nyfjäll.
In the second half, Hannover initially equalized and even took the lead when they had a man advantage. Despite several time penalties and a deficit, HSV Hamburg was able to turn the game around with goals from Zoran Ilic and Dani Baijens. In the exciting final phase, Johannes Bitter held strong and Dani Baijens scored the decisive goal to make it 26:25. Hannover was unable to score any more goals in the final seconds, so HSV Hamburg went home with a 26:25 away win and its fifth winning streak in a row.
