The last encounter
In their last meeting in the FIBA Europe Cup, the Basketball Löwen Braunschweig lost their away game against the favored Turkish club Tofas Bursa with a score of 90-102 (46-58). Despite the defeat, the team, led by head coach Jesús Ramírez, returned home with their heads held high. The team traveled to Bursa severely depleted, without injured players Gavin Schilling, Benny Schröder, and Martin Kalu. Additionally, Tre Mitchell was a last-minute scratch, further complicating an already difficult task.
Despite these setbacks, the team put in a spirited performance and stayed competitive for much of the game. Barra Njie stood out with 23 points and an impressive shooting percentage (11 of 14 from the field), being the best player for the Lions. Although the Braunschweig team struggled due to the absence of their center options and physical disadvantage against the taller opponents from Tofas, they fought their way back into the game repeatedly.
A 10-0 run by Tofas in the first half put the Lions at a distance, but thanks to strong defense and quick counterattacks, they managed to reduce the deficit. In the third quarter, they closed the gap to within ten points, but the high shooting percentage and offensive power of Tofas made a comeback impossible.
In the end, the game ended with a double-digit defeat, but the effort and unity of the team were clear. After the game, Jesús Ramírez praised his players' morale: "I am proud of how we fought and how we stuck together until the very last second." Despite the challenging circumstances, the Lions had nothing to regret and showed a strong team performance.
