The last encounter

The last meeting between VfB Stuttgart and RB Leipzig at the MHPArena (with Stuttgart playing at home) took place on 15 March 2026 in the Bundesliga and ended with a 1–0 home victory for VfB Stuttgart.

Stuttgart began the match with great intensity and looked to put Leipzig under pressure from the opening whistle. However, RB Leipzig quickly showed why they were considered such a dangerous opponent, creating several promising attacking moves. During an evenly matched opening phase, both sides competed on equal terms in an intense battle for important points in the race for the international qualification spots.

As the first half progressed, the game developed into a fast-paced contest with chances at both ends. Leipzig threatened the Stuttgart goal on several occasions and put the VfB defense under considerable pressure. The hosts responded with attacks of their own, repeatedly looking for openings in the final third, but were unable to convert their opportunities. As a result, the teams went into halftime with the score still level at 0–0.

The decisive moment of the match came shortly after the break. In the 56th minute, Deniz Undav capitalized on an error in Leipzig’s build-up play and scored the only goal of the game to give Stuttgart a 1–0 lead. The goal gave the home side additional confidence, while Leipzig increased their efforts in search of an equalizer.

In the closing stages, RB Leipzig significantly raised the pressure and created several excellent scoring opportunities. The visitors came agonizingly close to leveling the score on more than one occasion and were twice denied by the woodwork. Nevertheless, Stuttgart defended with great determination and resisted Leipzig’s attacking waves with a committed team performance.

Despite a number of tense moments in the final minutes, VfB Stuttgart managed to hold on to their narrow advantage until the final whistle. The victory earned the Swabians three important points against a direct rival and strengthened their position near the top of the Bundesliga table. Thanks to a disciplined collective effort and Deniz Undav’s decisive goal, Stuttgart secured a valuable 1–0 home win over RB Leipzig
