The last encounter

The last meeting between VfB Stuttgart and Hamburger SV at the MHPArena (with Stuttgart playing at home) took place on 12 April 2026 in the Bundesliga and ended with a convincing 4–0 home victory for VfB Stuttgart.

Playing in front of a sold-out crowd, VfB Stuttgart took control of the game from the very beginning and put Hamburg under pressure early on. The hosts combined fluently, won numerous duels, and created several promising chances during the opening stages. Hamburger SV struggled to gain a foothold in the match and was repeatedly forced back into its own half.

Stuttgart’s superiority was already reflected on the scoreboard in the first half. Angelo Stiller opened the scoring in the 21st minute to give VfB a 1–0 lead. Shortly afterwards, Chris Führich doubled the advantage in the 32nd minute, putting the home side firmly on course for victory. The Swabians remained the clearly better team and went into halftime with a deserved two-goal lead.

After the break, Stuttgart continued exactly where they had left off. In the 56th minute, Maximilian Mittelstädt scored to make it 3–0, effectively putting the game beyond doubt. VfB controlled both possession and proceedings, allowing Hamburg very few opportunities to create anything meaningful in attack.

Stuttgart remained dominant in the closing stages as well. Although Deniz Undav missed a penalty in the 82nd minute, the hosts were not affected by the setback. Just four minutes later, substitute Bilal El Khannouss sealed the result when his deflected effort found the back of the net to make it 4–0.

Hamburger SV continued to search for a consolation goal until the final whistle, but Stuttgart’s defense remained solid throughout the match. Goalkeeper Alexander Nübel was rarely called into action and successfully kept a clean sheet. Given the number of additional chances they created, Stuttgart could even have won by a larger margin.

In the end, VfB Stuttgart celebrated a thoroughly deserved 4–0 home victory over Hamburger SV. Thanks to a dominant overall performance, goals from four different scorers, and a disciplined defensive display, the Swabians comfortably secured three important points at the MHPArena.
