In the closing stages, Köln pushed forward in search of another equalizer, but Stuttgart defended with discipline and took advantage of the spaces that opened up on the counterattack. Deep into stoppage time, Deniz Undav sealed the victory. After being set up by Angelo Stiller, the German international scored to make it 3–1 and put the result beyond doubt.

As a result, VfB Stuttgart secured a deserved 3–1 victory over 1. FC Köln. After the visitors had managed to level the score late in the game, the Swabians showed great character and reclaimed control through late goals from Demirović and Undav. In front of 60,000 spectators, Stuttgart celebrated an important home win at the MHPArena.
